Silent World - Child Friendly
Silent World is located in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, South West Wales. The centre is housed in an attractive 19th Century chapel, this Aquarium is just a few minutes walk from the centre of Tenby, and is one of the few indoor activities in Tenby and is a refuge in bad weather, but best seen on a busy day.
Downstairs the main tanks are arranged in habitat groups, containing fish and other creatures from the shores, seas, rivers, streams, lakes and ponds of Pembrokeshire. You will be able to see exotic fish, amphibians and invertebrates.
Upstairs you will find the reptile display, housing a selection of snakes and lizards from around the world. Also, you might come accross a few other creatures, such as guinea pigs, Pysgod the cat, Joe the parrot and various creepy crawlies.
Children will enjoy the Rockpool where they can see Belina Blenny and her friends. You can get to know a little about reptiles at the handling sessions at specified times advertised at the Aquarium and locally.
Silent World is a quaint aquarium housed in a converted 19th century chapel. It is completely undercover so a fantastic retreat on a rainy day. There is a fantastic collection of fish, crab, lobsters and invertebrates including starfish, all of which are from the Pembrokeshire Coast. You will also see some exotic displays including a species of seahorse.
Upstairs in the reptile section, there are 30 dramatic habitat displays of snakes, lizards and amphibians from all over the world.
The aquarium is quite compact so they do not allow buggies when they are busy but will provide somewhere for them to be stored. All of the tanks have foot rails for young children so they can see without having to be lifted continuously.
Silent World is open all year round but times are slightly restricted during winter months and will sometimes only open to appointment.
Directions
From the M4 junction 49 take the A48 to Carmarthen. From Carmarthen take the A40 to St. Clears. Then take the A477 to Kilgetty and then the A478 to Tenby. Follow the signs to North Beach car park. Please park in the North Beach car park unless you elderly or disabled passengers. From the car park follow the Brown signs to the Silent World Aquarium which is about five minutes walk from the car park.
